About Mask Network
Mask Network is a Web3 portal that bridges traditional social media platforms like X (formerly Twitter) and Facebook with blockchain applications. Its core product is a browser extension that overlays decentralized features directly onto familiar social media interfaces. Users can send encrypted messages, trade tokens, display NFTs, and access decentralized apps without leaving their social feeds. This approach solves a key market pain point: the friction between Web2 social platforms and Web3 services. Instead of forcing users to navigate to separate dApps or exchanges, Mask brings blockchain functionality to where people already communicate, making Web3 accessible to mainstream users while preserving their existing social graph.
In the past six months (March to September 2026), Mask Network has focused on expanding its ecosystem and improving user experience. The company participated in major industry events such as the Hong Kong Web3 Festival, where it highlighted its social aggregation product Firefly. Firefly integrates multiple decentralized social protocols like Lens and Farcaster into a unified interface, allowing users to manage their cross-platform identities more efficiently. Mask also continued developing its ITO (Initial Twitter Offering) mechanism, which enables projects to launch tokens directly through social media posts, reducing the barrier for community participation. Additionally, the network has been working on enhancing its identity aggregation features through Web3.bio, which maps users' Web2 and Web3 identities across platforms.
Regarding negative developments, the broader crypto industry faced security challenges during this period. In April 2026, the Hyperbridge cross-chain protocol suffered a vulnerability exploit that resulted in significant fund losses. While this incident did not directly involve Mask Network, it highlighted the ongoing security risks within the Web3 ecosystem that projects must address. Mask has responded by emphasizing the importance of security audits and user education in its communications.
Founded by Suji Yan in 2017, Mask Network began as a browser extension bringing Web3 features—encrypted messaging, crypto payments, and decentralized file storage—onto Web2 platforms like Twitter and Facebook, establishing its long-term mission of bridging Web2 to Web3.
Between 2020 and 2021, it raised multiple rounds with support from HashKey, Binance, and others, totaling about $54 million in funding. In 2025, DWF Labs invested $5 million in MASK to accelerate decentralized social infrastructure.
From 2022 onward, Mask Network acquired Pawoo, RARA Social, Nametag, and Orb.club to consolidate decentralized social apps and identity assets, while launching Mask Grant to fund public goods and Web3 social projects.
In 2024, the founder’s wallet was hacked, with losses near $4 million; it was clarified as personal assets unrelated to the company, highlighting self-custody security issues in the industry.
In 2025, Mask Network announced a major restructuring, spinning off Next.ID, Web3.Bio, and Firefly as independent projects focusing on decentralized identity, profiles, and social aggregation. It also took over stewardship of Lens Protocol, becoming a key steward of decentralized social from infrastructure to application.
Positives: In March 2026, Mask Network took over Lens Protocol as its new steward, expanding the decentralized social ecosystem. In April, it launched Firefly Polymarket Trading League Season 2 and Web3.bio wallet-to-wallet messaging, and co-hosted Web3 Social Day. The staking program Season 1 went live, reducing circulating supply through lockups.
Negatives: MASK price fell after the takeover, reflecting weak market confidence; the decentralized social sector faced an overall downturn with Farcaster's acquisition and consolidation; the staking program has regional restrictions.
