Firefly

Launched in 2022 by Mask Network, Firefly was positioned as a one-stop cross-DID social app, aggregating Web2 and Web3 content and supporting ecosystems such as Lens and Farcaster.

In May 2023, Firefly announced its first $1 million community fund, backed by Mask Network tokens, to incentivize early users, contributors, and ecosystem projects. During this period, it also integrated Lens posting/mirroring, RARA NFT interactions, and more, evolving from an aggregated reader into an interactive Web3 social gateway.

In January 2026, Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin said Firefly, as a multi-platform client, can serve as both a Twitter client and a Farcaster client, letting users access decentralized social without leaving existing platforms, thus alleviating the network-effect dilemma.

In 2025, the product and data integration with RootData also combined market data with social feeds, laying groundwork for data-driven social experiences.

Firefly is a social everything app for Web3 natives, developed by the Mask Network team under the Dimension and SujiTech LLC entities, with the official X account @thefireflyapp. The core idea is aggregating fragmented decentralised social into one timeline: early versions supported Lens, Farcaster, Mirror and Snapshot, and it has since added X, Bluesky, Paragraph and Gitcoin, so users can follow all of it in a single feed instead of switching apps. The identity layer uses decentralised identifiers and previously integrated Next.ID, letting users consolidate Web2 and Web3 profiles into one cross-DID profile that is easy to switch and browse, with search supporting @username handles, .eth names and 0x addresses.

On features it does two things beyond being an aggregation reader. First is cross-platform one-click posting: write once and publish to multiple networks simultaneously, an approach publicly praised by Lens and by Vitalik Buterin. Second is socialising on-chain activity: the timeline shows what wallets you follow are doing across DAO votes, NFT trades, Polymarket bets and token swaps, with large moves surfacing directly in the feed, turning smart money into a real-time social signal. Supporting features include a built-in wallet with copy trading through integrations such as OKX, Lucky Drop that turns posts into claimable on-chain red packets, a Web3 calendar and NFT drop tracking. Mobile builds are actively maintained, with Google Play showing an update on October 27, 2026 and the iOS version published by SujiTech LLC.

Future strategy and roadmap: the direction is to be the everything app for Web3 natives, converging social, trading and community into one entry point, with cross-DID identity as a portable reputation base. The risk is heavy dependence on upstream social protocols: as ecosystems such as Lens and Farcaster rise and fall, the value of an aggregator tracks the activity of the networks it aggregates. It also sits in a squeeze between strong products: X itself is adding crypto functionality, while Farcaster clients such as Warpcast and wallet-embedded feeds are building comparable on-chain activity visualisation. As a Mask Network spin-out, its strategic priority may also shift with the parent company's focus, and capabilities such as cross-DID profiles and copy trading carry long-term data privacy and compliance uncertainty.
