About Bitget
Bitget is an integrated centralized exchange and wallet provider offering spot and derivatives trading, copy trading and on-chain trading to retail and institutional users worldwide, alongside its multi-chain Bitget Wallet. It addresses the difficulty newcomers face operating on-chain protocols and the split between centralized and decentralized experiences through unified accounts and copy-trading systems that lower the barrier, integrating on-chain trading, an AI assistant and yield products in one ecosystem. Its core mechanisms include Merkle-tree proof of reserves, a user protection fund, order-book matching and clearing logic, and a platform-token system unifying exchange and wallet utility for seamless CeFi-DeFi switching.
The cost of centralized custody is that user assets sit with the platform, exposing them to counterparty and security risk, and the protection fund covers only some extreme cases. In September 2026, a backend wallet breach linked to North Korea stole about $387.5 million in assets, fully covered by the protection fund.
Bitget was founded in July 2018 in Singapore by Sandra Wu, Chang Liu and Ryan Yang, initially focusing on crypto derivatives and futures trading before quickly rising among the world's top centralized exchanges.
In 2020 Bitget launched the world's first seamless copy-trading product, establishing a social-trading edge; in 2022 it published Merkle-tree Proof of Reserves and expanded its User Protection Fund to $300 million to strengthen trust and security.
In March 2023 Bitget invested $30 million to take a controlling stake in multichain wallet BitKeep, which was rebranded Bitget Wallet in August; the same year it launched a $100 million Web3 Fund and the Blockchain4Youth initiative.
Gracy Chen became CEO in 2024, and Bitget rose to the world's third-largest exchange by derivatives volume; Q1 futures and spot turnover exceeded $1.4 trillion, and September users surpassed 45 million across 200+ countries and regions.
In 2024 Bitget formed a multi-year regional partnership with LALIGA, and by year-end merged the Bitget Wallet token BWB into its exchange token BGB, unifying the tokenomics of its exchange and wallet ecosystems.
In 2025 Bitget rolled out on-chain trading (Bitget Onchain), the AI assistant GetAgent, the yield-bearing stablecoin BGUSD and stock perpetuals, evolving from a single CEX into an integrated CeFi-DeFi financial ecosystem.
By June 2025 Bitget's users exceeded 120 million; in August its reserve ratio reached 188% and the protection fund topped $700 million, while it secured virtual-asset licenses in Bulgaria, El Salvador and Georgia.
In June 2026 Bitget applied to Austria's FMA for a license under the EU's MiCA framework, advancing its European compliance push; on September 24 a backend-wallet breach linked to North Korea stole about $387.5 million—the year's largest exchange theft—covered fully by its $464M+ protection fund while cold wallets and keys stayed safe.
Buyback and burn ongoing: since 2025 Bitget has used 20% of quarterly exchange and wallet business profits to buy back BGB from the market and burn it; as of May 2026 cumulative burns reached 218.5 million tokens (23.8% of initial supply), with 12.8 million burned in a single month (about $26.1 million) and circulating supply steady at about 700 million. A one-time burn of 800 million BGB (40%) in late 2024 cut total supply from 2 billion to 1.2 billion, achieving full circulation.
Utility expansion: BGB is linked to on-chain gas usage on Bitget Wallet, with quarterly burn amounts algorithmically determined by gas usage and the program set to continue until total supply falls to 100 million; under the Morph partnership, 440 million BGB were transferred to the Morph Foundation, half burned immediately and the remaining 220 million released at 2% monthly, with BGB also serving as gas and governance token on Morph.
Ecosystem: over 100 million registered users and about 900,000 copy-trading users; tokenized US stock trading and Unified Trading Accounts (UEX) launched; the AI ecosystem Agent Hub surpassed 1 million users with about $1.2 billion in AI agent trading volume.
On January 30, 2026 Bitget announced that BGB would list on Kraken after its September 2025 transfer to the Morph Foundation made it the ecosystem's governance and gas asset. From April it pushed a universal-exchange model with Ondo's nearly 100 US stocks and ETFs, gold and oil CFDs and bot copy-trading; on June 29 it said it would gradually restrict European Economic Area users' access to parts of the global platform as it restructured for regulation.
At 19:05 UTC on September 24 its reconciliation systems flagged unauthorized transfers from hot wallets totaling about $351.6 million; cold wallets were untouched, the $464 million-plus User Protection Fund covers the loss, and withdrawals were paused. CertiK put the incident at roughly 31% of the $1.26 billion lost across crypto in Q3. BGB traded near $2 under pressure as the market weighed whether its Morph gas, governance and settlement role can stand on its own. On October 14 it rolled out limited-time yield campaigns across Cash Plus, Simple Earn, BGSOL and BTC.
Bitget's Future strategy and roadmap: Bitget is staking UEX on share of tokenized equities: its internal base case assumes $15–30 trillion of tokenized stock trading by 2030, with exchanges handling 20–40% of it, and Bitget targets 40%, using an 89.1% share of Ondo's tokens and $6 billion of daily Ondo volume in January to keep flow on its own venue. A MiCA licence expected in Q2 would split out Bitget EU, while US spot entry is planned for late 2026 or early 2027 through partnerships rather than a head-on fight, with profitability judged over two to three years. With BGB handed to Morph, the exchange itself pursues audits and multi-jurisdiction licences, keeping an IPO option open. A base of 125 million users and 2 million listed tokens underpins that share target.
Gracy Chen is CEO of Bitget. She studied at the National University of Singapore and earned an MBA at MIT Sloan, worked as a financial journalist and startup show host in the United States, moved into blockchain investing around 2015, joined Bitget as managing director in 2022 and became CEO in 2024, leading globalisation and compliance. Sandra Lou is a co-founder; she and the team incorporated in Seychelles in 2018, and she shaped the early organisation.
Vugar Usi Zade is COO. With master's degrees from Harvard and Oxford, he previously ran marketing at Sony and has reorganised brand and regional growth into a market-based matrix covering Latin America, the Middle East and Southeast Asia. Hon Ng is chief legal officer, previously general counsel at Binance; Min Lin is chief business officer, a former Goldman Sachs executive director. Engineering, compliance and regional teams report to the CEO.
