About Kraken
Kraken's trajectory includes several milestones with lasting impact. In 2020, it became the first crypto exchange to secure a Wyoming SPDI bank charter, enabling direct Federal Reserve master account access and full-reserve digital asset custody. In 2025, it launched CFTC-regulated perpetual futures for US traders, marking its entry into regulated derivatives. That same year, it opened US stock trading for European users, expanding beyond crypto into multi-asset brokerage. It also introduced regulated BTC and ETH options in Europe under MiCA, and received preliminary VARA approval in Dubai, strengthening its global compliance footprint. More recently, its parent Payward applied for a full EU banking license in Lithuania, aiming to bridge crypto with traditional finance. These steps reflect a strategic shift from a pure crypto exchange toward a regulated, multi-asset financial institution.
Kraken has seen recent team changes. In March 2026, Mark Greenberg joined as VP, B2B and Dorian Vincileoni as Head of Regional Growth - Western Europe, Northern Europe & Baltics. In June 2026, Karl Turner joined as Director - North American Institutional. Meanwhile, Logan Ross, Pete Rizzo and Gunjan Lalaji departed.
