About Optimism
As an Ethereum L2 solution, Optimism's key long-term milestones include:
In June 2024, the mainnet introduced the Stake prioritization mechanism for the first time, launching a four-week experiment to explore more efficient transaction ordering and security models. The same year, Optimism announced it would stop supporting op-geth and op-program, driving the client architecture toward a more streamlined, modular direction and laying the foundation for a multi-client ecosystem.
In 2024, OP Enterprise was officially launched, providing managed blockchain infrastructure for financial institutions, marking Optimism's expansion from consumer-grade L2 to institutional-grade infrastructure. Also that year, South Korean fintech company Toss partnered with Optimism to explore a Korean won-based stablecoin and test OP Stack infrastructure, advancing Asian market presence.
In 2025, Optimism transferred 546.9 million OP from airdrop reserves to the strategic fund, sparking governance controversy—the community questioned whether the DAO had the right to rewrite founding commitments. This event exposed deep contradictions in governance mechanisms and prompted industry reflection on the boundaries of token distribution and decentralized governance. Additionally, Optimism has not repurchased tokens as originally planned since May, with cumulative repurchases of 9.4519 million OP, and the adjustment of financial strategy has also drawn attention.
These nodes collectively outline Optimism's complete trajectory from technical exploration, architecture evolution to governance tests, and their long-term impact will continue to manifest in subsequent development.
