About zkSync
ZKsync (zkSync) has evolved from an Ethereum scaling solution into a comprehensive ecosystem. Key milestones include: the launch of zkSync Era, a zkEVM-based Layer 2 network, marking the transition from Lite to a full-featured platform; the introduction of the ZK Stack, a modular framework for building custom app-chains, enabling sovereign and interoperable Layer 2 networks; the release of the 2026 roadmap focusing on Prividium (a privacy solution), ZK Stack expansion, and Airbender (an intent-based interoperability protocol); the proposal of the ZK Fee Flow System, introducing an on-chain protocol fee distribution mechanism; and the strategic decision to deprecate ZKsync Lite in 2026 to concentrate resources on Era and the ZK Stack ecosystem. Founders have emphasized the need for "system-level privacy" to facilitate institutional adoption, positioning ZKsync as a key infrastructure for compliant and private blockchain transactions. These developments underscore a shift from simple rollups to a comprehensive, privacy-enabled, and institutionally-oriented ecosystem.
Alex Gluchowski – Co-founder & CEO. Previously founded Somuchmore GmbH and served as CTO at PaulCamper, leading engineering teams. Holds an M.Sc. in Computer Science from Technische Universität Berlin.
Vassilis Tziokas – VP of Growth. Formerly led Web3 and AI business development and strategy at Microsoft. Graduated from the University of Warwick.
Recent team changes at zkSync include the departure of Chief Protocol Architect Marcin Michalski in June 2026. He joined in March 2023 and was responsible for protocol design. Additionally, according to network sources, parent company Matter Labs conducted another round of layoffs in June 2026, with founder Alex Gluchowski announcing a full pivot to Prividium, a permissioned privacy chain for financial institutions, abandoning the original permissionless public chain route. This marks the second round of layoffs since September 2024, further shrinking the team. These changes reflect a major strategic shift for the project.
