About Covalent

Covalent is a decentralized data infrastructure that aggregates blockchain data from over 100 chains into a unified, structured format. Its core product, GoldRush, offers APIs, SDKs, and React components, allowing developers to easily query token balances, transactions, and NFT data. The platform emphasizes data verifiability, using cryptographic proofs to ensure accuracy, and provides both historical and real-time data through REST and WebSocket endpoints.

The main market pain point Covalent addresses is data fragmentation and the high cost of running nodes. Developers often struggle with inconsistent data formats across chains and the burden of maintaining infrastructure. Covalent solves this by offering a single, standardized API that works across multiple networks, with data that can be verified for integrity.

In the past six months (Feb-Aug 2026), Covalent has focused on expanding its product capabilities. Notable updates include the release of Ephemeral Keys for secure client-side API key management, a new WebSocket API for Hyperliquid with 23 additional methods covering order states and vaults, and a Usage API for programmatic account monitoring. The company also launched an AI Agent SDK to support autonomous agent development, and continued improving its GoldRush kit with more customizable React components. These developments show a clear shift toward serving real-time data needs and AI-driven applications.

One challenge mentioned in the industry is the growing issue of historical data availability on Ethereum, especially with EIP-4444 and data blobs, which Covalent aims to mitigate through its decentralized storage network. However, no major negative events specific to the project were reported in the given period.

Updated: Aug 29, 2026

Covalent was founded in 2017 and its mainnet went live in 2018, positioning itself as a modular data infrastructure layer focused on long-term data availability and verifiability. Its unified API now covers 100+ chains, providing structured data for AI and the onchain economy.

Key milestones: In June 2024, it completed a $5 million strategic financing led by RockTree Capital to strengthen long-term data availability in Asia; it then initiated a governance vote to migrate the token from CQT to CXT at a 1:1 ratio, completed in July 2024, laying the foundation for staking and decentralized governance; in September 2024, it launched the Ethereum Wayback Machine (EWM) light client testnet to address historical data availability challenges posed by Danksharding and state expiry, reinforcing Ethereum decentralization and long-term data preservation.
