About Axelar

Axelar is a decentralized cross-chain communication network that enables asset transfers and message passing between different blockchains. Its core business is providing programmable interoperability infrastructure, allowing developers to build applications that move assets, messages, and arbitrary logic across chains. The network uses proof-of-stake with 75+ validators and has reported zero exploits, emphasizing security and decentralization.

The main market pain point Axelar addresses is cross-chain fragmentation. Users often need to navigate multiple bridges, frontends, and routing tools to complete a simple transfer, making the experience complex and error-prone. Axelar's solution is a unified interoperability layer that simplifies this process, offering a direct interface at app.axelar.network for asset transfers across supported chains.

In the past six months (2026-02-28 to 2026-08-29), Axelar launched its first-party interface on June 25, 2026, initially supporting nine chains including Ethereum, Base, BNB Chain, Arbitrum, Polygon, Optimism, Avalanche, Immutable, and Filecoin. It integrated Solana mainnet on June 3, 2026, enabling cross-chain transfers and messaging between Solana and other supported chains. However, on May 13, 2026, a governance proposal was made to discontinue integrations with Flow, Berachain, and Plume due to no sustained activity and significant verifier costs, marking a notable negative event in the period.

Axelar, a decentralized cross-chain communication network, launched its mainnet in 2022, connecting over 50 blockchains and facilitating $6B+ in transfers. Key milestones include: 2024, Axelar Foundation disclosed a $30M AXL token sale; the network upgrade introduced a transfer gas fee (AXL) burning mechanism; Flow became the 70th connected chain; TON partnered with Axelar for interoperability. In 2025, Circle acquired Interop Labs (Axelar's initial dev team) and its IP, accelerating cross-chain deployment—though some critics called it a "disguised RUG." Canary Capital filed for an AXL ETF; former Acting Comptroller Brian Brooks joined the advisory council. These events mark Axelar's evolution from tech infrastructure to institutional-grade interoperability, with long-term implications for chain abstraction and RWA tokenization.
