About IoTeX
IoTeX is a DePIN public chain founded in 2017 whose mainnet uses Roll-DPoS, with staking-elected delegate nodes taking turns to produce blocks and a layer-two design aggregating high-frequency device data on-chain. Core components include ioID for device identity, W3bstream for off-chain computation and verification, and the QuickSilver model interface for AI; device makers sign sensor data before it reaches the chain, an on-chain registry confirms device ownership, and W3bstream aggregates off-chain by rule and writes proofs back. It addresses the difficulty of trusting physical device data on-chain, letting DePIN projects meter by device rather than by account. On 19 October 2026 the Zanzibar upgrade activated at block 53,533,081, moving reward calculation into consensus and adding BLS proof-of-holdings.
In the ecosystem IoTeX is the access layer between devices and chain, serving shared mobility, environmental monitoring and energy DePIN projects. IOTX pays on-chain fees and rewards nodes, and the network's usefulness tracks the real number of connected devices and the data calls they generate.
IoTeX, a DePIN modular infrastructure platform, has traversed key milestones with lasting impact. In 2023, it achieved full MiCA compliance across all 27 EU member states, marking a regulatory landmark for Web3 infrastructure. A critical turning point occurred in 2024 when the ioTube cross-chain bridge suffered a private key breach, leading to ~$4.3M in asset theft. IoTeX responded by rapidly freezing 86% of minted tokens, resuming mainnet within 48 hours, and committing to 100% user compensation. It also launched a claims portal, offered a 10% white-hat bounty, and introduced multi-signature and time-lock controls to decentralize bridge governance. These actions not only restored trust but also strengthened its security framework. The subsequent lifting of Upbit's trading warning further validated its resilience and compliance efforts, solidifying IoTeX's position as a robust DePIN platform.
Mainnet upgrade: Zanzibar, v2.5.0, activated on October 19 at block 53,533,081, moving reward calculation into protocol consensus under IIP-59, dropping the external Hermes service and adding BLS proof-of-possession against key forgery. The vote passed with 100% approval and the first payout came on October 20.
Other progress: A redemption portal launched on October 13 lets holders swap legacy ERC-20 IOTX 1:1 into the native coin at no fee. Version 2.4.0 added EIP-7702 account abstraction at block 48,985,561 on June 7, and QuickSilver Pro shipped on June 3.
On 21 February 2026 the ioTube bridge was exploited on the Ethereum side. The team paused the chain and froze the attacker's wallets, reactivated mainnet v2.3.4 on 24 February and opened a compensation portal on 24 March, with the foundation covering affected users in full from its treasury; Upbit lifted its IOTX trading warning on 1 April. In June the Yap hard fork made the chain compatible with Ethereum's Pectra upgrade and added smart accounts.
The second half moved faster. IoTeX Hub launched on 21 July, combining governance, staking, analytics and ecosystem discovery across more than 200 DePIN, DeFi and infrastructure projects. The Zanzibar hard fork went live on 19 October, and IIP-59 moved staking reward calculation and distribution onchain, replacing the external Hermes service and paying 13,846 voters within two days. The project claims more than 41 million connected devices, with the Realms framework and W3bstream verifying device data.
IoTeX will extend DePIN modules around ioID device identity and onchain verification, pursue cryptographic agility for post-quantum security, and turn operator pilots such as Vodafone's tower tokenisation into measurable network revenue.

IoTeX recently experienced a team change: Aaron Basi, who served as Head of Product since May 2022, departed in April 2026. His departure marks a key leadership transition in the product division, potentially impacting the platform's DePIN modular infrastructure roadmap and product strategy.
