About Shiba Inu
Shiba Inu (SHIB) is a decentralized meme token built on Ethereum, evolving into a multi-token ecosystem centered around the Shibarium Layer 2 network. Its core business includes the SHIB token, Shibarium (a Layer 2 chain for faster and cheaper transactions), ShibaSwap (a decentralized exchange), and auxiliary tokens like BONE (gas and governance) and LEASH (limited supply reward token). The ecosystem also explores NFT, metaverse, AI, and privacy applications.
Its core narrative is community-driven decentralization, validated by the ShibArmy (approximately 1.58 million holders). The project addresses the pain point of high Ethereum fees and slow transaction speeds through Shibarium, while its burn mechanism (a portion of Shibarium base fees converted to SHIB and burned) aims to create deflationary pressure. However, the supply remains massive at ~589 trillion SHIB, making burns relatively insignificant.
Market pain points include extreme volatility, meme-coin cycle dependence, and shallow adoption depth. Shibarium has processed over 1.5 billion transactions but its TVL remains low (around $1-2 million in 2025-2026), indicating limited liquidity and application usage compared to major Layer 2 networks.
In the past six months (2026-03-12 to 2026-09-12), SHIB's price declined approximately 15% year-to-date. Exchange net inflows reached 145.9 billion SHIB on August 29, signaling selling pressure. Open interest in SHIB futures rose 19.28% in 24 hours to 10.74 trillion SHIB, but this reflected position expansion rather than directional conviction. The price retreated from $0.00000590 (August 21) to $0.00000519 (August 28), down 12%. Shibarium activity stagnated after a vulnerability incident, with daily transactions dropping from millions to hundreds. The holder address count reached 1,558,200 in March 2026, with 78% holding for over a year, but exchange balances remained elevated. No project-specific catalysts drove the August rally, which relied on broader market recovery.
Shiba Inu (SHIB) launched on August 1, 2020 as a fair-launch ERC-20 token by anonymous creator Ryoshi, with no presale or team allocation. Half the supply was sent to Vitalik Buterin, who burned 410 trillion tokens in May 2021, creating the first major deflationary catalyst and global media coverage. ShibaSwap DEX launched in July 2021, marking the shift toward DeFi utility. SHIB hit its all-time high of $0.00008845 on October 28, 2021, briefly surpassing Dogecoin as the largest memecoin. Ryoshi disappeared in May 2022, with development leadership passing to Shytoshi Kusama, demonstrating genuine decentralization. The most significant technical milestone came on August 16, 2023, with the Shibarium Layer-2 mainnet launch, which has since processed over 1.5 billion transactions. In 2025, the ecosystem faced a major challenge when a flash-loan attack exploited the Plasma Bridge, stealing approximately $2.4 million. The team responded by suspending staking, migrating funds to a multisig wallet, and launching the 'Shib Owes You' (SOU) NFT compensation program for affected users. A notable long-term development is the collaboration with the UAE Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure to integrate ShibOS into government activities, signaling real-world adoption. Additionally, the TREAT token was planned for launch in January 2025 as the ecosystem's DeFi reward token, expanding the multi-token economy.
Co-founders and core executives:
Ryoshi (anonymous founder): Created Shiba Inu in August 2020. Disappeared in May 2021, deleting all social media and blog posts. Their identity remains unknown.
Shytoshi Kusama (lead developer): Joined the SHIB community in January 2021. Previously worked as an Uber driver, photographer, and barista; speaks six languages. Invested $3,000 in SHIB and proposed ideas to Ryoshi. Took over leadership after Ryoshi's departure. Led development of Shibarium, ShibaSwap, and SHIB Metaverse.
Kaal Dhairya (core developer): A tech talent recruited by Kusama. Previously worked as a delivery person in New York. Joined full-time after being convinced by Kusama, contributing to technical development and Shibarium.
