About Render
Render is a decentralized GPU computing platform that connects users needing rendering or AI compute with idle GPU owners worldwide. Its core business is a marketplace where creators, studios, and AI developers submit tasks, and node operators earn RENDER tokens for completing them. The network supports both 3D rendering (via Octane, Redshift, etc.) and general AI workloads through its Dispersed subnet, which includes enterprise-grade GPUs like H100/H200.
The main problem Render solves is the high cost and centralization of traditional cloud rendering. Instead of relying on AWS or specialized render farms, users can access distributed GPU power at competitive prices, while GPU owners monetize idle hardware. Its competitive edge lies in its Proof of Render mechanism, which verifies real computational work, and its Burn-Mint Equilibrium (BME) token model, where usage burns tokens and rewards are minted, aligning supply with actual demand.
In the past six months (Feb-Aug 2026), Render has expanded significantly. It approved a proposal to integrate Salad's 60,000 consumer GPUs as a dedicated subnet, boosting supply. The RenderCon 2026 event showcased MCP (Model Context Protocol) integration, allowing AI agents to directly trigger render jobs, and introduced the Dispersed brand for AI compute. The network processed over 22 million frames in 2025, indicating real usage growth. However, risks include its reliance on OTOY for core software, potential BME supply pressure if demand slows, and competition from AI-native networks like io.net and Akash. Also, some legacy RNDR tokens from the 2023 migration may still need manual conversion.
Render Network, founded by Jules Urbach in 2017 and publicly launched in 2020, pioneered decentralized GPU rendering. Its core innovation connects artists and developers with idle global GPU power, initially for 3D rendering and VFX. A major milestone came in 2024 with governance proposal RNP-019, establishing the Render Compute Network to expand beyond rendering into AI and general compute workloads. By 2025, the network had rendered over 65 million frames, with monthly epochs averaging 2.1 million frames. The launch of Dispersed in 2025 marked a strategic shift toward dedicated AI compute infrastructure, aggregating up to 1,000 enterprise-grade GPUs (Nvidia H100/H200, AMD MI300, Intel Max, Groq LPU) from independent node operators worldwide. This evolution from a rendering marketplace to a decentralized compute layer for AI workloads represents the project's most significant long-term trajectory, positioning it at the intersection of creative production and artificial intelligence.
