About Ravencoin
Ravencoin, a Bitcoin-forked PoW chain launched on Jan 3, 2018 with no pre-mine or ICO, focuses on asset tokenization. Key milestones: 2020-07: attacker exploited a bug to mint ~315M unauthorized RVN, exposing a critical inflation flaw. 2022-01-11: first halving (5,000→2,500 RVN/block). 2026-01-15: second halving (2,500→1,250 RVN/block). 2026-08-07: a consensus vulnerability in KAWPOW header validation was exploited, causing invalid blocks from height 4,487,776; 2Miners released an emergency patch, but upstream development is largely inactive. 2026-06: v4.7.0 BIP9 soft fork to fix an asset transfer overflow bug failed to activate due to insufficient miner adoption (~70% required). The network's hashrate has collapsed ~99.6% from its 2024 peak, raising security concerns. Despite early RWA positioning, institutional adoption has bypassed RVN due to lack of smart contracts and DeFi composability.
Negative: On August 7, 2026, the Ravencoin network suffered a consensus-layer exploit. Attackers exploited a KAWPOW block header validation flaw to forge blocks, causing invalid blocks to be accepted and a ~3-day deep reorg risk. Exchanges suspended RVN deposits/withdrawals, and the price fell about 20% that day. Some transactions after August 7 risked rollback.
Positive: The team and mining pools released an emergency patch v4.8.0, rebuilt the chain from a clean block, with support from 2Miners and others. The reorg was resolved and the network recovered. The community responded quickly, avoiding further losses.
