About Ondo Finance
Ondo Finance is an institutional-grade protocol that tokenizes real-world assets (RWAs), primarily US Treasuries and US stocks. Its core products include OUSG and USDY (yield-bearing Treasury tokens), Ondo Stocks (tokenized equities), and Ondo Perps (perpetual futures). The main market pain point it addresses is the lack of on-chain access to high-quality, yield-generating traditional assets, which limits DeFi efficiency and institutional participation. Ondo's competitive edge lies in its regulatory compliance (e.g., FINRA authorization for Oasis Pro Markets), asset segregation via bankruptcy-remote structures, and a hybrid architecture that combines private execution with on-chain settlement.
In the past six months (March–September 2026), Ondo's TVL grew to ~$3.6 billion, with tokenized stocks surpassing $1 billion in May. In July, it received FINRA approval to offer tokenized securities to US retail and institutional investors. However, Ondo abandoned its Layer-1 chain plan in favor of a private trading network (Ondo Network) with hardware enclaves for execution and Ethereum for settlement, reflecting a shift toward low-latency trading. Notably, the ONDO token has not captured protocol revenue, and its price fell ~80% from its December 2024 peak despite platform growth. The founder's death in May 2026 also introduced leadership transition risks.
Ondo Finance has evolved from a niche RWA issuer into a core on-chain treasury and tokenized securities platform. Key long-term milestones include: the passing of founder Nathan Allman in 2025, with president Ian De Bode assuming CEO role amid a subsequent governance dispute; the abandonment of independent Layer 1 plans in favor of a private high-speed execution network (Ondo Network) designed for exchange-grade performance; the launch of Ondo Perps, the first perpetual contract platform accepting tokenized stocks as margin; the hiring of a former Invesco ETF executive to lead on-chain investment product development; the partnership with Mirae Asset to tokenize its Global X ETF product line; and the rapid growth of tokenized ETF chains, with Ondo's IVVon market cap surpassing $430 million and increasing ~150% in a month. These events mark Ondo's strategic pivot from infrastructure building to scalable distribution and institutional adoption.
Ondo Finance has undergone significant team changes recently. After founder Nathan Allman passed away unexpectedly in May 2026, former president Ian De Bode took over as CEO. In June, John Hoffman, a former executive at Grayscale and Invesco, joined as Managing Director and Head of Product Portfolios to build onchain portfolio products. In July, former Blockchain.com CFO Adam Schlisman became Chief Financial Officer to oversee financial operations supporting institutional expansion. The company manages over $3.5 billion in tokenized assets and is moving from single-asset tokenization toward institutional-grade onchain capital market infrastructure.
