About Newton
Newton is a blockchain unified network focused on the onchain financial authorization layer. Its core business is to provide a decentralized policy engine that enables DeFi protocols to enforce compliance rules—such as spend limits, sanctions screening, and fraud prevention—directly within smart contracts before transactions settle. The platform uses VaultKit, an SDK that allows curators to define and update policies without rewriting contract code, while leveraging EigenLayer's AVS and zero-knowledge proofs to verify offchain data (e.g., KYC status, market feeds) in a privacy-preserving manner.
The main market pain point Newton addresses is the gap between blockchain settlement infrastructure and institutional-grade authorization. Traditional DeFi relies on frontend filters or centralized APIs for compliance, which are vulnerable to manipulation and fail to prevent direct contract calls. Newton moves policy enforcement onchain, making it verifiable and tamper-resistant, thus reducing risks like sanction evasion or exploit-driven losses.
In the past six months (March to September 2026), Newton launched its mainnet beta in March, initially supporting Ethereum and Base, with plans for more EVM chains. The team also integrated with Chainalysis and RedStone for sanctions data and price feeds, and partnered with Euler to demonstrate real-world vault protection. In August, Magic Labs sold its wallet business to Payward (Kraken's parent) and rebranded to Newton Labs, fully pivoting to the protocol. A notable negative event: in late 2024, the team faced community backlash over misleading promotion of memecoins ($NEWTON), which was later deleted and clarified, but left trust concerns. As of now, no official token has been issued, and the project remains in early development.
Newton Protocol (NEWT) is a unified blockchain network developed by Magic Labs and Polygon Labs, aiming to integrate cross-chain assets and accounts through a single wallet. Key milestones include:
Tokenomics announcement: Total supply of 1 billion NEWT, with 21.5% initially circulating. Community allocation covers 60%, including ecosystem incentives, network rewards, and foundation reserves, while 40% goes to core contributors and early investors with lock-up periods.
Binance HODLer Airdrop: Launched on June 23, 2025, distributing 1.25% of total supply to BNB holders. This marked a major exchange endorsement and community expansion.
Binance Alpha Listing: Listed on June 24, 2025, providing early access before spot trading, with an airdrop threshold of 241 points for phase one.
Exchange Expansion: OKX listed NEWT/USDT perpetual contracts, and Bitget launched spot trading, broadening market access.
These events highlight Newton's strategic focus on exchange partnerships and token distribution, establishing a foundation for its cross-chain interoperability vision.
Positive: In July, Magic Labs sold its wallet business to Payward (Kraken's parent), rebranded as Newton Labs to focus on the protocol, gaining Kraken's enterprise channel; mainnet beta launched in June with VaultKit on Ethereum and Base; continuous technical output on official blog, integrated with Euler/vaults.fyi.
Negative: 17.37M NEWT unlock on Sep 24 (~$730K sell pressure); 78.5% supply locked, linear vesting through 2030+; no revenue/TVL/adoption data, zero DeFiLlama listing; whales continuously transferring to exchanges, Top20 addresses hold 72.9%; token price down ~95% from peak.
Sean Li (Co-Founder & CEO): Previously founded Docker-related tools (sold to Docker, became Docker Desktop). Founded Magic Labs, which developed wallet infrastructure and was acquired by Kraken's parent. Now leads Newton, a blockchain unified network, focusing on AI-agent-driven finance.
Dennis J.H. Won (Co-Founder & CTO): Ex-Facebook staff engineer, early engineer at Harmony (sharded L1), Alchemy (ERC-4337 infrastructure), and Kaia (enterprise EVM). At Newton, he architects core protocol, including Keystore permissions and cross-chain execution.
Newton's recent team change: Dennis J.H. Won joined in June 2026 as Co-Founder and CTO.
With over 16 years of blockchain experience, he previously held roles at Magic Labs (acquired by Kraken), Alchemy, and Harmony, focusing on infrastructure, MPC, and zero-knowledge proofs. His addition will strengthen Newton's capabilities in chain abstraction, policy engines, and compliance technology.
