About Hyperlane
Hyperlane is a permissionless cross-chain messaging protocol that enables arbitrary data and asset transfers across different blockchain networks, including EVM chains, Solana, and Cosmos-based chains.
Its core value lies in modular security. Developers can customize Interchain Security Modules (ISMs) to define how messages are verified, choosing from multisig, optimistic verification, or CCIP Read. This flexibility allows applications to balance security and cost according to their needs. The protocol is also permissionless—anyone can deploy it to a new chain or run a relayer without approval.
The market pain point Hyperlane addresses is the closed nature of most cross-chain bridges, which rely on trusted validators and limit developer control. Hyperlane removes these barriers by offering an open framework where security models are programmable and deployment is unrestricted.
In the past six months (2026-02-28 to 2026-08-29), Hyperlane has expanded its ecosystem significantly. It integrated with TRON in April 2026, extending support to over 150 chains. The protocol also deepened collaboration with non-EVM ecosystems like CosmWasm, SVM, and Move, enabling cross-chain applications in these environments. Monthly active contracts using Hyperlane surpassed 1,700. However, the protocol remains without a native token, and its long-term security depends on how developers configure ISMs and the robustness of validator networks—a challenge common to modular designs.
Hyperlane, originally named Abacus Network, was founded in 2022 with the vision of becoming the first permissionless interoperability layer for modular blockchains. In September 2022, it completed a $18.5 million seed round led by Variant Fund, with participation from Galaxy Digital, CoinFund, Circle Ventures, and Kraken Ventures, establishing its foundational capital.
A key milestone came with the launch of its mainnet and the introduction of modular security models such as Sovereign Consensus and Interchain Security Modules (ISMs), allowing developers to customize security parameters. This was followed by the deployment of Warp Routes, enabling permissionless token transfers across any connected chain, which significantly expanded its ecosystem.
In April 2025, Hyperlane conducted its Token Generation Event (TGE) and opened airdrop claims, topping RootData's popular projects list. Shortly after, it secured listings on major exchanges including Binance, Coinbase, Upbit, and Bithumb, with the HYPER token briefly surging over 400% within 24 hours. These events marked the transition from a developer-focused protocol to a publicly traded asset, solidifying its position as one of the most widely adopted interoperability solutions, supporting over 100 chains across EVM, Solana, Cosmos, and Move ecosystems.
Hyperlane co-founders:
Nam Chu Hoai: Co-founder & CTO. Previously a founding engineer at Celo, where he led protocol and smart contract development. He also worked on projects like Credport and Betterplace. He holds a B.A. in Computer Science from Boston University.
Jon Kol: Co-founder. Previously co-led Galaxy's venture business and worked at cLabs. He focuses on strategy and ecosystem growth.
Asa Oines: Co-founder. Formerly a founding engineer at Celo, leading the protocol team. He also worked at Google and Apple. He holds an M.Eng in Computer Science from MIT.
All three remain actively involved in Hyperlane's leadership.
