About Berachain
Berachain's mainnet launched on February 6, 2025, marking the first implementation of the Proof-of-Liquidity (PoL) consensus mechanism. In November 2025, the Wasabi private key leak forced the team to blacklist the reward treasury and suspend BGT rewards, a critical security response that protected user funds. Shortly after, the BEX/Balancer V2 vulnerability was disclosed, with the team publishing affected addresses and launching a claims page, demonstrating crisis management capabilities. On December 17, 2025, Infrared, the liquid staking protocol, conducted its TGE, signaling the maturation of Berachain's DeFi ecosystem. The most significant milestone came with the PoL Next upgrade, which transitioned the BGT model to the sWBERA incentive system, fundamentally reshaping the tokenomics architecture. This evolution from pure BGT emissions to a more sustainable incentive framework represents a strategic pivot toward long-term protocol health, addressing earlier concerns about emission sustainability and aligning validator incentives with ecosystem growth.

Berachain has recently seen key team changes: Head of DeFi Jack Melnick and CTO Grizzly Bera both departed in April 2026. Melnick joined from Polygon Labs in May 2024 and led DeFi ecosystem growth; Grizzly Bera joined in February 2025 and oversaw technical architecture. Their exits may impact project momentum, though no successors have been announced yet.
