ChainCatcher message, Vitalik Buterin stated regarding the "arson at the judge's house" incident that he has a more radical belief that more governance actions should be anonymous/secret ballot (for example, I have previously advocated for secret voting in the United Nations General Assembly) to protect decision-makers from external pressure and violent threats.

He stated, "The judge's duty is to make rulings based on the facts as interpreted by their conscience, not to be accountable to violent mobs. Nowadays, these ideas sound crazy, 'why would cryptocurrency enthusiasts push zero-knowledge proof technology solutions into the realm of social issues,' but in the 2020s, an era where physical retaliation is readily available (including retaliation from foreign hostile forces), I believe these kinds of ideas will increasingly enter the Overton window."
