About ApeCoin
ApeCoin (APE) is the ecosystem token of the Ape ecosystem, primarily used for governance of ApeCoin DAO, where holders vote on proposals. It also serves as the gas token of ApeChain (launched in October 2024) and as a payment/incentive tool within the ecosystem.
Its core narrative has shifted from being a BAYC NFT community token to a chain-native asset, with exchange integrations (e.g., Binance) lowering access barriers. However, the actual use case remains weak: daily active addresses hover around 10,000–10,700, daily transactions are ~71,400, TPS is below 1, and average daily gas fees are only ~$145. TVL on ApeChain dropped from a peak of $34M to $4.5–5.7M, and new address creation is only ~343 per day. The NFT market crash (BAYC floor price down ~94%, NFT trading volume down ~90%) and the dissolution of the original DAO structure (AIP-596, replaced by ApeCo) have further weakened confidence.
In the past six months (2026-03-08 to 2026-09-08), Binance expanded native ApeChain integration, and the SEC closed its investigation without charges, removing regulatory overhang. Yet on-chain activity remains shallow, with whales staying on the sidelines. The ecosystem faces a clear problem: infrastructure exists, but demand is missing. The governance transition to ApeCo is still in its early stages, and its execution impact is unproven.
ApeCoin's core milestones began in February 2024, when AIP-378 passed with 50.35% of votes selecting Arbitrum technology for ApeChain. The Jenkins testnet launched in April, Curtis testnet in July, and the mainnet went live on October 20. APE was upgraded to the LayerZero OFT standard, becoming ApeChain's native gas token — every transaction burns gas while automatically generating yield, creating a deflationary loop. On October 21, APE surged from $0.748 to $1.758, a gain of over 135%. In 2025, AIP-596 proposed dissolving the DAO and transferring governance to ApeCo, a Yuga Labs-founded entity, shifting to a founder-led model focused on ApeChain, BAYC, and Otherside. Binance completed APE integration on Arbitrum One and launched fixed-term products, while the ApeCoin Foundation appointed Cameron Kates as CEO — marking a new phase of governance and ecosystem maturity.
