About Harmony
Harmony, an open-source blockchain for DApps, was founded in 2018. Its key milestones include the launch of the devnet in December 2018, followed by the mainnet launch in June 2019. In June 2022, Harmony suffered a major security breach, losing approximately $100 million, which highlighted the risks of cross-chain bridges. In August 2023, a critical vulnerability in its staking system led to the unauthorized minting of around 4 billion ONE tokens, causing a sharp price drop. To address this, Harmony proposed a chain rollback to the block state of August 11, 2023, aiming to reverse the counterfeit issuance. This rollback plan, announced in 2025, would discard affected transactions and restore network integrity. These events underscore Harmony's ongoing efforts to enhance security and resilience in the face of evolving threats.
Stephen Tse (Founder & CEO). He has a PhD in security protocols and compiler verification from the University of Pennsylvania. Previously worked at Microsoft Research, Google, and Apple. Founded Harmony to build a high-throughput, low-latency, and low-fee consensus platform.
