About API3
API3 is a decentralized oracle protocol that enables API providers to run their own oracle nodes using Airnode technology, eliminating intermediaries. Its core business includes offering dAPIs (decentralized APIs) for smart contracts and an OEV (Oracle Extractable Value) mechanism that auctions update rights, returning 80% of proceeds to dApps.
The market pain point is that traditional oracles like Chainlink rely on third-party relayers, creating opacity and value leakage. API3 solves this by letting data sources operate nodes directly, ensuring transparency, verifiable signatures, and lower costs. Its competitiveness lies in first-party oracles, broad chain coverage (40+ chains, 200+ feeds), and the OEV revenue-sharing model.
In the past six months (Feb-Aug 2026), API3 expanded integrations with lending protocols like Compound and Moonwell, and OEV rewards surpassed $281,000, with a target of $1 million by year-end. However, in 2023, API3 faced criticism over token price volatility and delayed mainnet launches, and its governance token saw significant drawdowns. Subsequently, the OEV Network pivoted to building on Arbitrum Orbit to improve execution efficiency, scalability, and cost-effectiveness. The OEV Network mainnet then officially launched, becoming the first L2 network to return protocol MEV through on-chain auction mechanisms.
Additionally, API3's TVS surpassed $1 billion, indicating widespread adoption of its data feeds in the DeFi ecosystem.
