VET is the value-layer token of VeChainThor's dual-token model with a fixed supply never inflated. Holding VET generates VTHO (gas token) at a base rate, and 100% of base transaction fees are burned for deflation. VET transfers value, votes on governance and traces enterprise supply chains.

About Vechain
VeChain is an enterprise-focused Layer1 launched in 2015, whose VeChainThor mainnet uses proof-of-authority consensus for supply-chain, anti-counterfeit and IoT clients. It addresses traceability data held by a single party and easy to tamper with, plus the trust cost for enterprises building their own chain. Its dual-token design puts VET on value transfer and VTHO on gas, binds physical goods to on-chain identity through IoT chips, writes product journeys into an auditable ledger, and burns 100% of transaction fees in VTHO to close the economic loop; enterprise clients use its toolstack for full-lifecycle traceability, concentrated in luxury goods, food and pharmaceuticals.
The network has activated the Interstellar upgrade on its Renaissance roadmap, bundling 11 Ethereum EIPs while keeping the dual-token design; roughly 86.7 billion VET are fully circulating with no unlock schedule and VET itself has no buyback, so enterprise adoption concentration is the growth boundary.
VeChain's key milestones with long-term significance:
2015 Project Launch: VeChain was founded with PwC as its first institutional investor, marking its entry into enterprise blockchain.
2018 Rebranding: Transitioned to VeChainThor, a dual-token (VET/VTHO) platform, establishing a sustainable economic model.
2022 PoA 2.0 & FOB: Introduced Proof-of-Authority 2.0 with Finality-with-One-Bit (FOB) consensus, enhancing security and scalability for enterprise use.
2023 Whitepaper 3.0: Outlined a roadmap focusing on sustainability and mass adoption, including VeBetterDAO.
2024 VeBetterDAO Mainnet (June 28): Launched a sustainability-focused dApp ecosystem with B3TR/VOT3 tokens, driving real-world engagement and rewarding eco-friendly actions.
2025 Interstellar Phase (August 10): Initiated voting on VIP-255, a major upgrade aligning VeChainThor with Ethereum's latest EVM features (EIP-1153, EIP-5656, etc.), significantly enhancing developer compatibility and network capabilities.
On August 8, 2026, the VeChain Foundation announced the Interstellar phase of its Renaissance roadmap, with upgrade proposal VIP-255 passed via VeVote voting from August 10 to 17, bundling 11 Ethereum EIPs (Cancun/Prague/Osaka compatibility); officials stated it does not affect VET or VTHO tokenomics.
Interstellar activated on September 16, 2026 at block height 25,902,540; combined with an August 27 supply-chain transparency partnership with a major Asian logistics firm, VET rose about 37% in seven days in late August, breaking the downtrend in place since the start of the year.
On the supply side, roughly 86.7 billion VET are already fully in circulation with no unlock schedule; the protocol currently burns 100% of transaction fees in VTHO, and VET itself has no buyback mechanism.
On September 16, 2026, VeChainThor activated the Interstellar hard fork at block height 25,902,540. VIP-255 bundled 11 Ethereum Improvement Proposals, adding transient storage, MCOPY, and BLS12-381 and secp256r1 precompiles to bring the execution layer in line with Cancun, Prague and Osaka; VET and VTHO need no migration, and wallet addresses and staking mechanics are unchanged. The governance vote ran from August 10 to 17 on VeVote, and nodes had to upgrade to Thor v2.5.0.
VET rose about 77% in the week before the fork, and Binance suspended deposits and withdrawals on September 16 to support it.
Vechain's Future strategy and roadmap: The 2026 roadmap centers on the AI agent economy: the protocol layer is to integrate MCP, issue on-chain identity and reputation scores for agents, add RWA on-chain attestation, JSON-RPC equivalence and a new explorer, and ship SDK v3. After the Interstellar fork, nodes keep upgrading on releases above Thor v2.5.0, with the relevant VIPs still decided by holder votes on VeVote, and no migration for VET or VTHO.
