About Velo
Velo is a blockchain-based settlement network focused on cross-border payments and financial infrastructure. Its core business includes a settlement layer for stablecoin transfers, the Nova Chain EVM-compatible network, the Warp cross-chain bridge, and the Orbit Plus consumer app for stablecoin management and payments. Velo's main value proposition is connecting traditional finance with crypto by enabling fast, low-cost, and compliant value movement, particularly in emerging markets where existing payment rails are inefficient. The market pain point it addresses is the high cost, slow speed, and opacity of cross-border settlement, especially for remittances and business payments.
In the past six months (February to August 2026), Velo announced a strategic partnership with Zebec Network in August 2026 to develop the Velo Card, a crypto debit card that lets users spend digital assets at traditional merchants. This collaboration combines Velo's PayFi infrastructure with Zebec's card payment technology, aiming to bridge crypto and everyday commerce. No major negative events were reported during this period, though execution risks remain given the project's broad scope across multiple product lines.
Velo, founded in 2018 with backing from Thailand's CP Group, launched its VELO token in September 2020 on the Stellar network, establishing its initial infrastructure for digital credit issuance. In 2021, the acquisition of Interstellar brought new technology and management depth. A significant long-term move came in 2022 when 6 billion tokens were burned, reducing the total supply from 30 billion to 24 billion, a structural adjustment to the tokenomics.
In 2024, Velo Labs received a second strategic investment from UOB Venture Management, reinforcing its institutional backing. That same year, Velo integrated BlackRock's tokenized short-term Treasury fund BUIDL into its USDV stablecoin reserves, a milestone linking traditional finance with DeFi. Additionally, a partnership with OpenEden allowed tokenized U.S. Treasuries (TBILL) to back USDV, further strengthening its reserve framework.
More recently, Velo was included in Binance Alpha's airdrop campaign alongside ANOME and POWER, expanding its ecosystem reach. These developments highlight Velo's progression from a Stellar-based protocol to a multi-chain settlement network with institutional-grade asset backing.
Positive: On July 16, 2026, Binance.US listed VELO/USDT, providing a compliant U.S. market access. On August 5, Velo partnered with Zebec to launch a branded debit card, bridging PayFi with global merchants. In September, VELO saw increased use as collateral amid a crypto loan surge, signaling real utility. The roadmap also promises Orbit Plus, RWA, and cross-chain features in Q2-Q3 2026.
Negative: VELO price dropped 7% in July amid broader market weakness. Liquidity is thin ($2M daily volume), token allocation and vesting schedules are undisclosed, posing dilution risk. Competition from Stellar ecosystem and high-beta sensitivity amplify downside. No clear value-capture mechanism (buyback/revenue share) exists.
