About Tron

Tron is a public chain for payments and decentralized apps, supporting stablecoin transfers and on-chain transactions with relatively high throughput and low fees and holding a large share of stablecoin circulation.

The project maintains ledger security through consensus and network architecture and offers smart contracts, token issuance and developer tools for apps to deploy. Its ecosystem spans payments, DeFi and wallets, emphasizing performance and cost efficiency and continuously improving the network and governance, making it one of the more influential networks in stablecoin transfers and public-chain payments.

TRON was founded by Justin Sun in Singapore in 2017, raising about $70M via a token sale that year, initially pitched as a decentralized content-entertainment blockchain.

In June 2018, TRON's mainnet went live and TRX migrated from Ethereum ERC-20 to its own native chain, completing the leap from token to independent public blockchain.

In July 2018, TRON acquired BitTorrent—a file-sharing platform with over 2 billion users—for roughly $140M, rapidly expanding its ecosystem.

In March 2019, Tether partnered with TRON to issue TRC20-USDT, whose ultra-low fees made it a core settlement rail for global stablecoins.

In May 2022, TRON launched the decentralized stablecoin USDD, managed by the TRON DAO Reserve, deepening its stablecoin strategy.

In 2023, the U.S. SEC sued Justin Sun and TRON for fraud and market manipulation, marking the project's most serious regulatory setback.

In July 2025, affiliate Tron Inc. went public on Nasdaq via a reverse merger; that August the U.S. Commerce Dept. chose TRON to publish official GDP data hashes.

On July 9, 2026, USDT circulating on TRON surpassed $90 billion, cementing its place among the world's largest stablecoin settlement networks.

Revenue: according to Lookonchain, Tron's protocol revenue in Q1 2026 was $82.69 million, second among all chains (behind only Hyperliquid); Q3 network fees totaled $701.4 million, including $225 million in September, with a single-day peak above $8.6 million on September 15. Q3 stablecoin supply rose to $93.88 billion and monthly active addresses reached 18 million.

Technology and regulation: on April 14, Justin Sun unveiled a post-quantum upgrade roadmap, quantum-resistant signatures were activated on the testnet on July 2, and in October he said mainnet deployment could happen at any time; in June, TRX listed on CFTC-regulated Bitnomial spot trading; on September 9, the Canary Staked TRX ETF listed on Cboe.

Supply and demand: TRX has no hard cap and is burned when users pay for network resources, with no protocol-level buyback; however, Nasdaq-listed Tron Inc. keeps accumulating, buying 149,000 TRX at an average price of $0.3346 on October 10 and taking its holdings above 718.1 million TRX.

In March 2026 the SEC's civil case against Justin Sun and related entities settled, with affiliate Rainberry paying a $10 million civil penalty and claims against Sun dismissed with prejudice. In June TRX listed on Bitnomial, a CFTC-regulated U.S. venue, for compliant spot and derivatives access; on September 9 the Canary Staked TRX ETF (TRXS) began trading on Cboe, wrapping staking yield into an ETF.

On September 23 TRON DAO said cumulative on-chain transaction volume had passed $30 trillion, with over 405 million accounts, more than 15 billion transactions, over $28 billion in TVL and more than $94 billion of USDT in circulation, over half the global total. Token Terminal put year-to-date USDT transfer volume at about $6 trillion, averaging $25 billion a day. TRON joined the S&P Pantera Digital Asset Index on July 24; Anchorage Digital added native TRX staking and TRC-20 custody; and on October 21 Nasdaq-listed Tron Inc. said its Super Representative node ranked first with about 3.71 billion delegated TRX.

Tron's Future strategy and roadmap: Tron's cash flow comes from a near-monopoly in stablecoin settlement: in the third quarter of 2026 it handled about 73% of global stablecoin volume and booked $82.7 million in protocol fees, second only to Hyperliquid. That revenue curve explains why compliance precedes narrative: the dual US capital-market channel of ETF and listed company is not just fundraising but an institutional bid for TRX, with TRXS bringing roughly $50 million at launch and related ETP assets rising from about $29 million in the second quarter to $80 million. The risk is equally concentrated, since USDT issuance on Tron is tied to Tether's choice of venue and a migration would erode the fee base. B.AI's agent payments are the second curve against that single dependency.
