About Liquity
Liquity is a decentralized borrowing protocol where users deposit ETH as collateral to mint the stablecoin LUSD (V1) or BOLD (V2). V1 offers zero-interest loans with a 110% minimum collateral ratio, while V2 introduces market-driven interest rates set by borrowers and supports multiple LSTs like wstETH and rETH.
Its core strengths lie in being immutable, governance-free, and non-custodial. All operations are algorithmic and parameters are fixed at deployment. V2 adds isolated borrowing markets per collateral type, a redemption mechanism that stabilizes the peg, and protocol-funded liquidity incentives for DEX pools.
The main pain points it addresses are high borrowing costs and governance risks in traditional lending platforms. By removing governance and automating fees, it provides predictable, transparent borrowing. V2's market-based interest rates also let borrowers optimize costs while maintaining capital efficiency.
In the past six months (2026-03-01 to 2026-09-01), Liquity V2 has been operating with its multi-collateral system and liquidity incentives. However, no major protocol updates or significant ecosystem developments were publicly reported during this period. One notable negative event in the last two years was the V1 liquidation cascade during the March 2025 ETH price crash, which led to significant losses for some borrowers and stability pool depositors.
Positive:
No unlock pressure: only ~1.27% of LQTY supply remains locked; ~53% of circulation is staked, reducing sell pressure.
V2 revenue growth: as of June 2026, annualized fees ~$1.98M, income ~$435K; 25% of interest (PIL) is allocated via LQTY staker votes.
100% of protocol revenue flows back to users, no treasury.
Negative:
On Apr 1, 2026, a fake Circle acquisition press release on Liquity's blog caused a pump-and-dump, revealing thin liquidity and speculative trading.
V2 weakens value capture: 75% of interest goes to BOLD depositors, reducing direct short-term rewards for LQTY stakers.
Shrinking scale: V1 LUSD supply down ~98% from peak; V2 BOLD supply only ~$31M, far smaller than peers.
Rick Pardoe (Co-Founder & Core Developer): Built core smart contracts for Liquity v1/v2, worked on math foundations, focused on testing/security, liaised with auditors. Previously blockchain developer at ETHDevs.com and B2B tech copywriter.
Michael Svoboda (CEO): Scaled Liquity V2 to $200M+ user assets, directed cross-functional team, set strategy. Previously COO at Liquity, Co-Founder & CEO at atpar AG, Head of Operations at Blockhaus, Senior Business Developer at Swisscom. MSc in Computer Science and Economics from University of Zurich.
