About Bonk
Bonk is a community-driven meme coin on Solana, launched in December 2022 via a massive airdrop to revive the ecosystem. Its core business revolves around practical tools: LetsBonk.fun, a token launchpad that charges 1% fees and uses part of revenue to buy back and burn BONK; BonkBot, a Telegram trading bot; and BonkSwap, a DEX. These tools aim to solve the problem of meme coins lacking real utility by embedding BONK into DeFi, NFTs, and payments, making it a 'social layer' for Solana.
Its narrative centers on fair distribution and community ownership, with over half of the supply airdropped to users. However, in July 2026, BonkDAO suffered a governance attack where an attacker bought votes with ~$4.4 million to pass a malicious proposal, draining ~$20 million worth of BONK from the treasury. This highlighted the risk of low-participation governance. In the past six months, Bonk has also seen the rise of LetsBonk.fun, which briefly surpassed pump.fun in daily token launches, and the company behind it, Bonk Inc., reported a 71% reliance on related-party revenue, raising sustainability concerns.
Bonk's key milestones include Safety Shot, Inc. rebranding to Bonk, Inc. with ticker BNKK and adopting a BONK treasury strategy, backed by $30 million financing where $25 million came in BONK tokens from founders. This marks major public-company integration. BONK accumulated burns of 11.55 trillion tokens valued at roughly $300 million, strengthening scarcity. Paxos enabled compliant trading for over 500 million users, while Bitcoin Capital's BONK ETP listing on the Swiss Stock Exchange added institutional exposure. BonkDAO suffered a $20 million governance attack, highlighting risks.
Positive: BONKbot routes 100% of trading fees to BONK buybacks and partial burns; cumulative burns reached ~12.01T BONK in Q2. Bonk Inc. posted its first positive operating quarter in Q1 and plans to accumulate BONK toward 5% of supply. Bithumb lifted its caution tag and continues trading support.
Negative: BonkDAO suffered a malicious governance proposal, draining 4.426T BONK ($20M) for just ~$4.4M, with no timelock. Upbit delisted BONK on Sept 7 citing unresolved security issues. Q2 revenue fell 77% QoQ; BONKfun revenue dropped 87.9% amid market contraction.
Nom (Twitter: https://x.com/TheOnlyNom) is a core contributor and co-founder of Bonk. A Solana developer and decentralized journalist, he entered the ecosystem in February 2021 and helped build MonkeDAO around Solana Monkey Business NFTs. After the FTX collapse in late 2022, he co-founded Bonk, launching it on December 25 as a morale-boosting meme coin. He pushed for deep ecosystem integrations, growing Bonk from 40 to over 350 active use cases. He also co-founded Moonwalk. Active as a core contributor, he focuses on user experience and lowering onboarding barriers.
