Thinking Machines Lab is raising $5 billion at a pre-money valuation of $40 billion
According to a report by Business Insider citing informed sources, the artificial intelligence company Thinking Machines Lab, founded by former OpenAI Chief Technology Officer Mira Murati, is raising $5 billion at a pre-money valuation of $40 billion. The company had previously completed a $2 billion seed round financing earlier last year at a valuation exceeding $10 billion, but subsequent attempts to raise funds at a $50 billion valuation encountered negotiation breakdowns.
Thinking Machines Lab has released its second-generation model Inkling 2 Small, which uses a MoE architecture with a parameter scale of 594B-A17B, undergoing four stages of pre-training and 9 days of joint reinforcement training. The lab stated that Inkling 2 Small scores significantly higher in analytical intelligence compared to previous models, showing improvements in intelligent coding, vision, knowledge work, and reasoning. The model will have its weights open-sourced under the Apache 2 license next week.
