Nov 3, 2026 19:06:35

According to Bloomberg, Bill Winters, the CEO of Standard Chartered, stated at the Global Financial Leaders Investment Summit hosted by the Hong Kong Monetary Authority on November 3 that the evolution of artificial intelligence is causing a "fear factor" among employees. However, he reassured anxious employees that the industry has previously undergone similar transformation processes.

In response to questions about the evolution of AI, Winters mentioned that Standard Chartered currently has about 100,000 employees, which is roughly the same number as when he joined the bank 11 years ago; "We have automated approximately 25,000 positions during this process and replaced them with other roles."

Bloomberg reported that AI may be impacting hundreds of thousands of jobs. Standard Chartered is headquartered in London, with a business network primarily covering the markets in Asia, Africa, and the Middle East. Winters joined the bank 11 years ago and has served as CEO since then.
