U.S. Senator accuses X of favoring Polymarket, questioning unfair competitive advantage

Democratic senators in the U.S. Senate have accused Elon Musk's social media platform X of giving preferential treatment to the prediction market Polymarket. Nevada Democratic Senator Catherine Cortez Masto, California Democratic Senator Adam Schiff, Nevada Democratic Senator Jacky Rosen, and Connecticut Democratic Senator Richard Blumenthal wrote in a joint letter first disclosed by Semafor that typically, X allows users to report ads for various reasons. However, when users attempt to report Polymarket's ads through X's standard interface, they are unable to select the report option. Other types of ads, including those from Kalshi, do not have this issue.

This letter, which includes screenshots, claims that this seemingly unfair special treatment raises questions about whether X is trying to provide Polymarket with an improper competitive advantage, thereby benefiting the U.S. President and his family. Donald Trump Jr. has invested in Polymarket and serves as an advisor to the platform.
