Ethereum supporter Anthony Sassano: Ethereum gas limit may increase 3-5 times next year

According to Cointelegraph, Ethereum supporter Anthony Sassano stated in an interview that the gas limit for Ethereum could be increased by more than three times next year, and some Ethereum core developers are even discussing the possibility of raising the gas limit fivefold within the next year.
Previously, the gas limit for Ethereum (the maximum amount of work allowed in each block on the network) was raised from 45 million to 60 million. Sassano mentioned that developers could achieve this by rebalancing transaction costs, lowering the costs of certain activities on Ethereum while increasing the costs of others. "The cost of transferring native ETH can be reduced from 21,000 gas to 6,000 gas, a reduction of over 70%, while keeping the gas limit unchanged." By reallocating costs in this way and repricing other activities, the network could ultimately support a higher gas limit. Sassano co-authored an Ethereum Improvement Proposal (EIP) with Ethereum core developer Ben Adams, and the two plan to include it in Ethereum's Glamsterdam upgrade, expected to take place in the first half of 2026.
