ChainCatcher news, the Global Encryption Coalition (GEC) recently sent a letter to the Irish government, strongly urging the abandonment of the proposed "Communications Interception and Lawful Access Bill." This bill would allow law enforcement to access encrypted messages, and GEC warns that this would severely threaten cybersecurity, increase the risk of cybercrime, and could lead to tech companies withdrawing from Ireland.

As the headquarters for many tech giants in Europe, Ireland's legislative decisions have far-reaching implications. GEC also urges Ireland to withdraw its support for the EU "Chat Control" bill, which requires scanning before message encryption and has recently faced opposition from Germany. Experts emphasize that weakening encryption not only endangers personal privacy but also poses a national security risk.
