Flappy Moonbirds is an arcade-style game in which the player controls the bird Owlie. Owlie moves persistently to the right and the player is tasked with navigating it through pairs of pipes with gaps placed at random heights. The player taps the touchscreen to make Owlie ascend and it automatically descends. Each successful pass through a pair of pipes earns the player one point and each successful collection of ether awards ten points.
