About DEGEN
DEGEN is a meme token born in the /degen channel of Farcaster, a decentralized social protocol. It started as a tipping currency for quality content and evolved into the native gas token of Degen Chain, an L3 blockchain built on Base using Arbitrum Orbit technology. Its core business includes social tipping, low-cost on-chain transactions, and supporting Farcaster mini-apps like Bountycaster and Perl prediction market.
Its narrative centers on community-driven culture, with over 1 million holders co-creating the brand identity. Unlike pure meme coins, DEGEN addresses the pain point of meme tokens lacking utility by powering a real blockchain ecosystem, enabling micro-payments, games, and social apps at minimal fees.
In the past six months (2026-03-12 to 2026-09-12), DEGEN faced significant headwinds. The entire meme coin sector dropped 69% from its December 2024 peak, and DEGEN's price fell to $0.001086 with a market cap of $40.14M, down 19.52% in seven days. OKX also delisted DEGEN perpetual futures on December 26, 2025, reducing leveraged trading activity. The team planned to launch the full Degen App in summer 2025, shifting from meme to utility, and considered token burn or buyback mechanisms to manage the 36.9 billion supply. However, the Degen Chain experienced outages during its L3 transition, and the token remains well below its all-time high of $0.06999.
The DEGEN Foundation is considering a phased burn of its 32.5% token holdings to strengthen long-term tokenomics.

Jacek Trociński (Twitter: @jacek0x, Farcaster: jacek.degen.eth), founder and lead of DEGEN. A Polish software engineer with 10 years of programming experience. He previously worked at YC-backed crypto startup Hedgehog.app before leaving to create DEGEN. In December 2023, he launched the DEGEN token on Farcaster, airdropping it to active users, and it grew into a leading meme token on Base. He now leads the DEGEN app, aiming to build a social rewards layer on Farcaster.
Aside from Jacek, no other co-founders or core executives have been publicly confirmed.
