About TrueUSD
TrueUSD (TUSD) is a USD-pegged stablecoin launched in 2018, designed to provide a transparent and reliable digital dollar. Its core business involves minting and redeeming TUSD tokens 1:1 with US dollars, supported by daily attestation reports from Moore Hong Kong and real-time reserve verification via Chainlink Proof of Reserve. The project's main value proposition is addressing the lack of transparency in stablecoin reserves, offering users verifiable on-chain evidence that each token is fully backed. TUSD operates across multiple blockchains including Ethereum, TRON, and BNB Chain, and is listed on numerous exchanges and DeFi protocols.
In the past six months (Feb-Aug 2026), TUSD has undergone significant strategic shifts. The most notable development is the announced transition to the USDD architecture, allowing holders to voluntarily swap TUSD 1:1 for USDD, which aims to expand multi-chain programmability and reward integration. However, this period also saw a major legal dispute: a $456 million lawsuit involving Techteryx (the entity behind TUSD) alleging misappropriation of reserve funds held by First Digital Trust. This case has raised concerns about custody risks and the actual state of reserves, despite ongoing attestations. Additionally, regulatory pressures in the EU under MiCAR have led to TUSD being delisted or restricted on some European platforms, as it lacks an e-money license. These events highlight persistent challenges around trust and compliance in the stablecoin sector.
