About DIMO
DIMO is a decentralized vehicle data network. Users connect their cars via OBD-II hardware or automaker APIs, and the platform collects telemetry such as location, speed, fuel consumption, fault codes, and battery status. Users retain ownership of this data and can choose whether to share it with third parties, earning DIMO token rewards in return. The data is ultimately sold to B2B buyers like insurers, fleet operators, and maintenance providers.
The core narrative is "user-owned data" — breaking the traditional model where automakers monopolize vehicle data. DIMO positions itself as a DePIN (Decentralized Physical Infrastructure Network) where drivers, not corporations, control the value of their driving information. The ecosystem also allows developers to build applications on top of this data, such as usage-based insurance or vehicle valuation tools.
The main market pain point is that vehicle telemetry has long been locked inside proprietary automaker systems. Car owners have no access to their own data, and third-party service providers face high costs or legal barriers to obtain it. DIMO solves this by creating an open, user-consented data marketplace with standardized access via API.
In the past six months (March to September 2026), DIMO has focused on ecosystem expansion rather than major technical breakthroughs. In July 2025, it partnered with Activepieces to enable low-code and AI integrations, making it easier for developers to build on DIMO data. It also expanded tire pressure signals to more Hyundai and Kia models, including EVs like the Ioniq 5 and EV6. In June 2025, DIMO entered the Japanese market through a joint venture with Hakuhodo KEY3, targeting local automakers and fleet operators. However, challenges remain: B2B demand is still immature, most revenue is still in pilot phases, and traditional OEMs continue to resist opening their data silos. OBD-II hardware adoption also faces friction due to installation requirements and unclear economic incentives for average drivers.
On May 21, 2026, DIMO launched a self-service access revocation feature for shared vehicles, allowing users to directly revoke access from their wallet without contacting the owner. This simplifies vehicle sharing, enhances user autonomy over connected vehicle permissions, and improves ecosystem usability and retention.
