About Venus
Venus is a lending protocol on BNB Chain and several EVM networks where deposits earn interest-bearing receipts and borrowers post collateral at utilization-based rates. It monetizes native BNB Chain assets sitting idle, where holders need liquidity without selling. Assets are split into isolated pools, each with its own collateral factor, liquidation threshold and reserve factor; oracles aggregate several price sources, and a breach lets liquidators repay debt at a discount and claim collateral.
In BNB Chain's DeFi structure it is a primary source of stablecoins and leverage, with its rates used as a benchmark. XVS holders govern new markets and parameters, and part of protocol fees buys XVS at market for stakers. Versus multi-chain lenders its asset list tracks the BNB ecosystem, with long-tail collateral reviewed market by market.
Venus Protocol, launched in 2020 on BNB Chain, is a decentralized lending platform governed by XVS token holders via Venus Improvement Proposals (VIPs), with over 611 VIPs executed. Key milestones include: 2021 - Certik ranked Venus 3rd highest security score on BNB Chain (94/100), backed by 14+ audits. 2024 - Expanded to Ethereum mainnet, deploying 12 markets and introducing a Pendle pool, marking its multi-chain growth. 2025 - A precision loss vulnerability was disclosed in the lending protocol, highlighting ongoing risk management. In February 2025, THENA proposed a soft merger with Venus to create a 'DeFAI Super App' on BNB Chain, pending Venus DAO approval, which could reshape DeFi integration. These events underscore Venus's evolution from a single-chain lending protocol to a multi-chain DeFi hub, while navigating security challenges and strategic consolidation.
Buyback and burn: A May 7 governance proposal migrated to TokenBuyback, replacing eight legacy converters with ten new contracts, scrapping the up-to-50% conversion premium and buying at market price. BNB Chain protocol fees were $694,857 in Q2 2026, of which $138,971 (48,607 XVS) went to buybacks.
Incentives and eligibility: Vault rewards for the July 6 to October 5 quarter run at 535.07 XVS per day, including a 308.7 base allocation, for a projected APR of about 2.14%; only chains averaging over $50,000 in monthly revenue qualify, and just BNB Chain does.
In March 2026, Venus suffered a donation attack on its THE market that left roughly USD 2.18 million of unrecoverable bad debt, after which the protocol froze affected assets, completed partial repayments and commissioned additional audits. On 20 August 2026 it launched an RWA vault on BNB Chain allowing institutional tokenised assets such as Asseto's CASH+ to be pledged for stablecoin borrowing, and on 26 August the vaults began supplying onchain liquidity to Solv with collateral held and attested by regulated custodian Ceffu.
Venus Liquidity Hub v1 went live on 31 August 2026, allocating deposits across Core, Flux and fixed-rate vaults. The protocol joined the BNB Chain bug bounty on 10 September with rewards up to USD 100,000, and on 24 September integrated Centrifuge's JTRSY and JAAA tokenised assets, with USDT Hub yields reaching 3.65 percent.
Future strategy and roadmap: Venus plans to widen RWA collateral to more money market funds and credit assets in the second half of 2026, strengthen isolated markets and oracle redundancy, and use its institutional lending structure and liquidity hub to convert capital efficiency on BNB Chain into steadier protocol revenue.
