About Ripio

Ripio, founded in 2013 as BitPagos, is a leading crypto platform in Latin America. It raised $44 million, including a 2017 ICO for a peer-to-peer lending system on Ethereum. In 2020, it acquired BitcoinTrade, Brazil's second-largest exchange, expanding its footprint. Ripio launched its own stablecoins pegged to local currencies, such as wARS (Argentine peso), wBRL (Brazilian real), and wMXN (Mexican peso), and tokenized Argentine sovereign bonds (AL30). It also partnered with Visa to introduce a DeFi credit card that uses crypto as collateral, allowing users to borrow against their holdings. With operations in seven countries and over 1.5 million users, Ripio has evolved from a retail exchange into a B2B infrastructure provider, offering crypto-as-a-service, OTC desk, and institutional custody.
