About RabbitHole

RabbitHole is a Web3 task platform where users complete on-chain operations—like swapping tokens, providing liquidity, or borrowing—to earn token rewards from partner protocols. Its core business is simple: protocols list tasks, users finish them, and both sides benefit. The platform's main appeal is its "learn-to-earn" model, which lowers the entry barrier for newcomers by turning complex DeFi actions into guided, rewarding steps. For protocols, it serves as a user acquisition and education tool, filtering for engaged participants rather than passive airdrop hunters.

The problem RabbitHole addresses is twofold: new users often find Web3 intimidating and costly to explore, while protocols struggle to attract quality, long-term users amid noise and bots. By gamifying tasks and offering real token incentives, RabbitHole helps users build hands-on experience and on-chain reputation, while protocols gain a more targeted distribution channel.

In the past six months (March to September 2026), RabbitHole has focused on refining its task infrastructure and expanding partnerships. The platform introduced more flexible quest types, including multi-step challenges and conditional rewards, and improved its receipt system—users can now trade or redeem quest receipts in secondary markets, adding liquidity to earned rewards. It also rolled out a revamped dashboard with clearer progress tracking and skill badges, making the user journey more transparent. On the partnership side, RabbitHole onboarded several emerging DeFi and infrastructure projects, broadening its task library beyond established names. No major controversies or security incidents were reported during this period, though the platform continues to face competition from similar quest platforms and the inherent challenge of keeping task quality high as user numbers grow.

RabbitHole, founded by Brian Flynn in May 2020, pioneered gamified on-chain learning. Its June 2021 seed round and February 2022 $18M Series A provided growth capital. The February 2023 V2 launch introduced Quest Receipts (transferable NFT proofs) and Quest Protocol, enabling projects to precisely distribute tokens. In April 2023, ETH Earned replaced XP with an on-chain reputation system quantifying real task completion, enhancing Sybil resistance. The 2025 pivot to an Onchain Retention market marked a strategic shift: protocols pay for capital staying power rather than one-time clicks, with rewards streamed over time to long-term holders. This evolution from quest-based incentives to retention-focused mechanics represents a significant redefinition of DeFi incentive design.

In the past six months (2026-03-05 to 2026-09-05), the most significant development was RabbitHole's pivot from a quest platform to an onchain retention marketplace. On May 14, the official X account announced its return, opening sign-ups and verification to build anticipation for hold-to-earn opportunities. On July 20, it unveiled the relaunch under the new 'Onchain Retention' model, with the official launch set for early August. CEO Matt Grunwald said DeFi incentives have long rewarded the wrong behaviors, and the new system pays for retained capital rather than clicks or temporary spikes.

The officially stated future focus is building an onchain retention marketplace where protocols stream rewards over time based on capital duration and amount, paying only for long-term retention. Participants can exit anytime. The model emphasizes genuine 'Resident' depositors, supports rewarding longer holding periods and larger positions, and prioritizes wallet quality, post-campaign retention, and sybil resistance, making one-time farming uneconomical.
