About Nibiru
Nibiru is a layer 1 built on the Cosmos SDK that places two execution environments, the EVM and CosmWasm, on one chain so Solidity and Rust contracts share state and liquidity. A perpetual futures module, spot AMM and oracle are native to the chain: the perp module anchors contract prices to a spot index through funding rates, validator-submitted prices are weighted and written onchain, margin ratios trigger liquidation, and an insurance fund absorbs losses beyond it.
Consensus uses CometBFT's Byzantine fault-tolerant voting with single-block finality, and assets cross chains through IBC within the Cosmos ecosystem. NIBI pays gas, secures the network through staking and carries governance votes. Users are mainly Cosmos traders who want direct derivatives exposure and developers combining Solidity and Rust logic on one state machine.
Nibiru Chain, a Layer 1 blockchain and financial hub, has achieved several milestones with long-term significance. In March 2024, its mainnet launched, supporting Wasm smart contracts written in Rust. In June 2024, it introduced Nibiru EVM, a high-performance EVM execution environment achieving over 10,000 TPS in a single-threaded context, enabling seamless interaction between Ethereum tokens and multi-VM applications. By the end of 2024, Nibiru plans to implement parallel optimistic execution to further enhance transaction processing. The launch of flagship dApps such as Nibi-Perps, Nibi-Swap, and NUSD marks a crucial step toward a user and developer-centric platform. Financially, Nibiru completed an $8.5 million seed round in April 2023, a $12 million round in February 2024 with participation from Kraken Ventures and others, and a CoinList community sale that sold out in 9 minutes, demonstrating strong market confidence.
Upgrades: v2.14.0 shipped on June 10, tightening treasury multisig control and governance deposit safety; v2.15.0, v2.16.0 and v2.18.1 followed on June 30, July 4 and August 21, each prompting brief exchange deposit and withdrawal pauses.
Fundamentals: In early September the market value was just $535,000 at $0.0005 per token, with 1.05 billion of a 1.5 billion cap circulating; there is no buyback or burn, only inflationary issuance, and on-chain activity is minimal.
In 2026 Nibiru advanced its execution layer through frequent, incremental upgrades. Version 2.12.0 activated at block height 40,511,000 on 27 April; v2.14.0 on 10 June made the Treasury CW3 multisig self-managing, deprecated the dormant mainnet hot wallet and swept its balance into the treasury, restricted governance deposit denoms and blocked tokenfactory minting or burning against module accounts; v2.16.0 went live at block 42,885,000 on 18 June; and v2.18.1 deployed at block 44,788,180 on 21 August.
Nibiru's earlier v2.11.0 added governance-allowlisted zero-gas contract calls and laid groundwork for P-256 passkey smart accounts, while v2.14 let allowlisted contracts stay gasless even when wallets populate standard fee fields, including calls carrying native value. Release notes also record a CometBFT security patch and fixes removing nondeterministic iteration from consensus paths.
Future strategy and roadmap: Nibiru keeps widening the scope of zero-gas whitelisted contracts so more protocol calls execute gas-free while wallets still fill the fee field, and expands P-256 passkey smart-account onboarding and recovery. The network will connect more cross-chain assets, refine Treasury multisig self-management and governance deposit limits, lowering the new-user barrier while filling gaps in DeFi apps and cross-chain coverage.
