About Neon

Neon is an EVM-compatible network built on Solana, allowing Ethereum developers to deploy smart contracts written in Solidity directly on Solana's high-performance infrastructure. Its core value is bridging Ethereum's mature developer ecosystem with Solana's speed and low transaction costs. The main market pain point it addresses is Ethereum's network congestion and high gas fees, while Solana's native development requires Rust, creating a barrier for EVM developers. Neon solves this by letting existing Ethereum tools like MetaMask, Hardhat, and Remix work seamlessly, with transactions settled in SOL. In the past six months (2026-02-28 to 2026-08-29), Neon has focused on expanding its composability libraries, enabling Solidity contracts to interact with native Solana programs such as SPL Token and Raydium. This allows developers to access Solana's liquidity pools and assets directly from EVM contracts. The project also improved its NeonPass tool for ERC-20 transfers between Solana and Neon. However, as an EVM compatibility layer, Neon still faces inherent limitations: transaction throughput is constrained by Solana's scheduler for EVM-style sequential execution, and the complexity of bridging two different runtime environments can lead to occasional edge-case bugs. Despite these challenges, Neon's practical approach of providing a familiar environment for Ethereum developers while leveraging Solana's underlying performance remains its key differentiator.
