About Bitlight Labs
Bitlight Labs is the main contributing team behind the RGB protocol, combining client-side-validated asset issuance with Lightning payments as an application layer on Bitcoin: assets are not written on-chain, contract data is held by each counterparty, Bitcoin scripts carry ownership control, and Taproot supplies privacy and settlement finality. Its RLN node, built on LDK, lets RGB assets move over Lightning channels, alongside the non-custodial Bitlight Wallet supporting RGB20 assets and mainnet-to-Lightning transfers, and BitSwap, an AMM for RGB assets.
Its place is the issuance side of the Bitcoin ecosystem: where Ordinals and Runes write data on-chain, RGB keeps state off-chain for privacy and lower block-space use, which suits stablecoins and security-like assets. A BitLight technical whitepaper was published on 30 July 2026 proposing a node model that separates operation from signing. Asset liquidity concentrates in BitSwap, and wallet interoperability still requires each side to sync contract history, a higher bar than ordinary tokens.
Bitlight Labs, a core infrastructure provider for the RGB protocol on Bitcoin, has progressed through several key milestones. In 2024, the company announced the RGB mainnet launch, opening asset minting for testing, marking a foundational step for its scalable asset layer. A significant development came in September 2025 when Bitlight Labs completed a $9.6 million Pre-A funding round led by Amber Group and Fundamental Labs, with participation from over twenty investors including United Overseas Bank and HV Capital. This capital was directed toward advancing RGB's integration with the Lightning Network, enabling native Bitcoin stablecoin payments. Subsequently, the project released its LIGHT token, with an airdrop query page and a token generation event hinted for September 27, 2025. Major exchanges followed, with OKX listing LIGHT perpetual contracts and Binance Alpha adding the token. These events underscore Bitlight Labs' trajectory from protocol development to exchange integration, positioning it as a key player in bringing stablecoin payments and asset issuance natively to Bitcoin's ecosystem.
Token unlock: The first monthly unlock hit on August 27. Only ~43.06M tokens (10.25% of the 420M max supply) circulate, with roughly 90% still locked — a pronounced sell-pressure overhang.
Major development: A BitLight technical whitepaper published July 30 drove a ~44% 30-day rebound from the June 6 all-time low. In September the underlying Bitcoin node was upgraded to v31.0 with a Cluster Mempool architecture.
Into 2026, Bitlight Labs kept advancing its Bitcoin-native infrastructure based on the RGB protocol and Lightning Network, shipping RLN node upgrades, developer SDKs, and a RGB-Lightning desktop client, with the LIGHT token live on BNB Chain.
Future strategy and roadmap: Bitlight Labs plans to mature RGB assets and stablecoin payments on Lightning and promote native smart-contract capability across more Bitcoin-ecosystem apps.
