Starknet: Post-quantum migration does not require a hard fork
Oct 30, 2026 23:09:51
Starknet posted on platform X stating that account abstraction allows for changing the verification logic while keeping the address, balance, and history unchanged, thus switching to a post-quantum signature scheme without modifying the protocol.
Starknet stated that as an Ethereum L2, its settlement, data publishing, and cross-chain bridges still rely on Ethereum and elliptic curve cryptography; researching an independent L1 would allow it to set its own cryptographic schemes and migration timelines. The independent L1 is still a research direction, STRK remains the native token, and there are currently no plans to issue new tokens. Any decision to migrate to L1 must go through a binding governance vote.
