According to CNN, multiple informed sources have revealed that during the planning of the current operation, the U.S. Pentagon and National Security Council seriously underestimated the likelihood of Iran closing the Strait of Hormuz in response to U.S. military strikes.

Sources say that Trump's national security team failed to adequately consider the consequences of the worst-case scenario. Three individuals familiar with the closed-door meetings stated that during a recent classified briefing, senior officials in the Trump administration admitted to lawmakers that they had not anticipated Iran would close the Strait of Hormuz in retaliation for an attack.
