Goolsbee: If inflation falls to 2%, there may be multiple rate cuts this year
Feb 17, 2026 22:44:44
According to Jinshi News, Fed's Goolsbee stated that if inflation continues to fall back to the target level of 2%, there may be further rate cuts this year. He warned that inflation in the service sector remains high and noted that if price increases related to tariffs are temporary, policymakers will have some leeway. Goolsbee believes that if it can be demonstrated that inflation is returning to the 2% trajectory, there could be several rate cuts in 2026, but it still needs to be observed. He hopes to see evidence that interest rates are falling back to 2% in order to continue cutting rates.
