Extreme snow and ice weather in the southern United States may severely impact the operations of Bitcoin mining companies

According to Cointelegraph, a winter storm threatening much of the southern United States could lead to Bitcoin miners suspending operations.
The American weather forecasting company AccuWeather stated on Thursday that this "massive winter storm" could stretch 1,800 miles, extending from the far west of Texas to the central Atlantic coast, affecting over 60 million people. Historically, when large storms have damaged the power grid, Bitcoin miners have voluntarily reduced their activities to alleviate the burden on the grid. During a significant winter storm in Texas in 2022, cryptocurrency miners in the state voluntarily reduced their operations. Bitcoin environmental, social, and governance researcher Daniel Batten stated that as extreme weather events become more common around the world, the demand for load balancing in Bitcoin mining will increase, especially as more solar and wind energy is integrated into the grid.
