ChainCatcher news, according to Coindesk, British Columbia, Canada, has announced a permanent ban on new cryptocurrency mining projects connecting to the power grid to ensure the supply of electricity for industries that can create jobs and public revenue.
As the third largest province by population in Canada, this measure is included in the comprehensive legislative and regulatory reform plan announced by the provincial government on Monday, which also sets new electricity usage limits for data centers and artificial intelligence companies. The government will implement several regulatory policy adjustments in the fall of 2025, permanently banning new cryptocurrency mining projects from connecting to the British Columbia Hydro power grid to maintain the province's power supply and avoid grid overload.
The provincial government stated in an official announcement.
