"Bitcoin Jesus" Roger Ver admits to undeclared Bitcoin holdings and reaches a $50 million settlement with the U.S. Department of Justice

ChainCatcher news, according to Theblock, early Bitcoin evangelist Roger Ver, known as the "Bitcoin Jesus," has officially reached a settlement agreement with the U.S. Department of Justice, acknowledging that he intentionally failed to report his Bitcoin holdings when renouncing his U.S. citizenship.
According to the Department of Justice statement, Ver signed a deferred prosecution agreement and paid nearly $50 million to the IRS in back taxes, penalties, and interest. Prosecutors stated that Ver's omissions resulted in a loss of $16.9 million to the U.S. government. The government has now dismissed the charges against him. Acting U.S. Attorney Bill Essayli stated in a Tuesday announcement, "Mr. Ver is taking responsibility for his actions and has agreed to pay a substantial fine."
