ChainCatcher news, according to The Block, Taiwanese crypto venture capital firm Sora Ventures plans to raise up to $1 billion for a new fund to support Bitcoin funding companies in Asia. The venture capital firm stated that it has secured $200 million in initial commitments from partners and investors in Asia, with a goal of raising $1 billion in funding over the next six months.

Previously, Sora invested in Japan's Metaplanet in April 2024 and supported Metaplanet's purchase of Bitcoin for 1 billion yen ($6.6 million). Earlier this year, Sora Ventures acquired Hong Kong's Moon Inc., which has shifted its focus to Bitcoin and Web3-related investments after rebranding from Hong Kong Asia Holdings. In July of this year, a consortium led by Sora made a tender offer to acquire Thai electronics retailer DV8, aiming to replicate the Metaplanet model in Southeast Asia. In the same month, Sora and its partners also acquired a controlling stake in South Korea's BitPlanet to support the company's expansion into the digital asset space.
