About GenLayer
GenLayer is a Layer 1 built for judgment-style contracts: conventional smart contracts handle only deterministic computation while many real questions require reading text, comparing web content or making subjective calls. GenLayer has contracts call multiple AI validators, collect their conclusions, aggregate them by consensus rules and write the result onchain, with economic incentives restraining misbehavior.
It targets unstructured judgments that oracles cannot cover, since prices can be fed but whether a news item is true or a contract breached has no standard data source. Putting AI into consensus is its most radical design and the main objection: model output is non-deterministic and validators can be manipulated by prompt injection. A testnet opened in January 2026 with mainnet targeted for the second half.
GenLayer, developed by YeagerAI, is building an 'Intelligent Layer' for the internet, enabling AI-driven smart contracts. Key milestones include:
$7.5M Seed Round: Completed a seed financing led by North Island Ventures, with participation from Node Capital, Arrington Capital, ZK Ventures, WAGMI Ventures, BlockBuilders, and Arthur Hayes' family office Maelstrom. This funding validated the project's vision and accelerated development.
Testnet Asimov Launch: Launched the incentivized testnet 'Asimov', introducing the first AI-powered blockchain court and Intelligent Contracts. This marked a shift from traditional smart contracts to AI-integrated, non-deterministic execution.
Mainnet Roadmap: Published a clear path to mainnet, progressing from permissioned validator sets to progressive decentralization, with phases named after sci-fi authors (Asimov, Bradbury, Clarke). This outlines long-term governance and network evolution.
GenLayer advanced steadily toward mainnet in 2026: Testnet Asimov went live in January, debuting its AI blockchain court and Intelligent Contracts to developers; later in the year it launched Testnet Bradbury (the 'scholar's gym'), focusing on model routing, greyboxing and AI consensus under adversarial conditions. On July 10, the GenLayer Foundation formed a consortium of 27 firms including OKX and ConsenSys to standardize agent payments and dispute resolution. Its Internet Court testnet processes about 350,000 daily transactions and 20,000-25,000 daily rulings.
Future strategy and roadmap: Looking ahead, GenLayer targets mainnet in Q4 2026 with a native GEN token for staking and fees to support scaling validators from roughly 70 to 1,500; its base is a zkSync Layer 2 anchored to Ethereum, and it will deepen inference and compute partnerships such as io.net, LibertAI and Gaia to complete the adjudication layer for autonomous agent commerce.
