About Zama
Zama is a cryptographic protocol focused on Fully Homomorphic Encryption (FHE), enabling computations on encrypted data without decryption. Its core product, fhEVM, allows smart contracts on public blockchains to process encrypted inputs, keeping transaction amounts, balances, and user positions private while remaining verifiable.
The main problem Zama solves is the inherent transparency of public blockchains. For institutions or high-value users, revealing wallet balances and trading strategies is unacceptable, which has limited the adoption of DeFi and on-chain finance. Zama's technology encrypts data end-to-end; only parties explicitly authorized by contract rules can decrypt specific values. This enables confidential payments, private token swaps, sealed-bid auctions, and compliant RWA tokenization without exposing sensitive business data.
Over the past six months (2026-02-28 to 2026-08-31), Zama has shown notable progress. In early 2026, the team conducted the first confidential ICO on Ethereum mainnet using a sealed-bid Dutch auction, attracting over 11,000 bidders with total commitments of $118.5 million. In July, they launched the test version of Confidential RFQ, a fully on-chain sealed-bid request-for-quote protocol for large institutional trades, hiding trade size and direction; 100% of its fees are used to buy back and burn ZAMA tokens. On July 27, the team announced benchmark results achieving approximately 1,000 TPS for confidential transfers on commodity GPUs, about a year ahead of schedule. They also partnered with Elliptic for compliance wallet screening and introduced confidential USDC yield vaults with Morpho and Steakhouse.
Despite these advances, challenges remain. FHE computational overhead is still significantly higher than plaintext operations, and whether performance can sustain high-frequency DeFi use cases is unproven. The token holder base is relatively small (~7,640 addresses), indicating limited ecosystem breadth. Additionally, with a total supply of 11 billion ZAMA and only about 19.66% circulating, large unlock events (approximately 1.98 billion tokens annually through 2030) may exert structural selling pressure on the price.
Zama, a leading FHE (Fully Homomorphic Encryption) cryptography company, has achieved several milestones with long-term significance. In March 2024, the company completed a $73 million Series A funding round, followed by a $57 million Series B in June 2025, bringing its valuation to $1 billion. The mainnet launched in early 2025, with the token beginning circulation in February. A major technical breakthrough came in July 2025 when the team announced a benchmark of approximately 1000 confidential transactions per second on commodity GPUs, a 5000x improvement over the initial 0.2 TPS demonstrated in 2022, achieved about a year ahead of the roadmap. This performance leap is critical for practical FHE adoption. In July 2025, Zama introduced the Confidential RFQ protocol, a fully on-chain sealed-bid request-for-quote system that encrypts transaction size and direction, with 100% of trading fees used to buy back and burn ZAMA tokens. The company also launched the first privacy DeFi yield product on Ethereum in collaboration with Morpho, allowing users to deposit shielded assets into yield vaults while keeping positions encrypted. These developments demonstrate Zama's transition from research to real-world applications, establishing it as a core infrastructure layer for confidential blockchain transactions.
Zama is a cryptography company specializing in Fully Homomorphic Encryption (FHE), founded in 2020 and headquartered in Paris, France.
Co-founders:
Rand Hindi — Co-founder & CEO. Born in Paris in 1985, he previously founded Snips (a voice AI startup acquired by Apple in 2019) and served as its CEO from 2013 to 2019. Earlier, he worked as a data science consultant in London (2008–2012). He started his PhD at age 21, focusing on statistical energy functions for protein folding decoy selection.
