About Tellor
Tellor is a decentralized oracle protocol built on its own Layer 1 blockchain (tellor-1). Unlike traditional oracle services that rely on centralized API feeds, Tellor uses a permissionless network of reporters who stake TRB tokens to submit data. Anyone can challenge a submission through a dispute mechanism, and dishonest reporters are penalized via slashing. This cryptoeconomic design ensures data accuracy without trusting a single party.
Its core innovation is 'Tellor Pull,' which allows smart contracts to fetch and verify oracle data in the same transaction as the user interaction. Instead of requiring a separate update transaction (push model), the user brings the data proof along with their action, reducing latency and eliminating the need for keeper infrastructure. This is particularly valuable for lending protocols, stablecoins, and cross-chain applications where stale price data could lead to financial losses.
The main market pain point Tellor addresses is the trade-off between decentralization and practicality. Many existing oracles are either too centralized or too expensive to use. Tellor's staking and dispute system provides strong security guarantees, while its pull model lowers gas costs and improves user experience.
In the past six months (February to August 2026), Tellor has seen notable developments. In August 2026, Bithumb, a major South Korean exchange, listed TRB/KRW trading pair, increasing accessibility for Korean retail investors. The team has also been actively promoting the Tellor Pull model to developers, highlighting its benefits for applications requiring fresh data within a single transaction. However, the token has experienced significant volatility, dropping from over $65 in 2025 to around $13, reflecting broader market risk and cautious sentiment among traders. Despite this, the protocol's technical progress and exchange listings indicate continued adoption efforts.
Tellor released the Tellor Layer whitepaper, introducing a dedicated L1 blockchain built with Cosmos SDK, with TRB as its native currency for staking, tips, and voting. This marks a strategic shift toward subjective data consensus. Additionally, Tellor officially launched on zkSync Era, expanding its oracle services to Layer 2 ecosystems. These milestones represent Tellor's evolution from a simple oracle to a multi-chain, self-sovereign data layer.
